CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between Governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
CITES Permits are required for category 1 species (Leopard and Elephant). It is important that you are in possession of relevant CITES permits issued by the county into which you will be importing your trophies. Without the import CITES Permits, your trophies cannot be exported from Tanzania.
Owing to various complications involved in obtaining CITES Permits, we strongly recommend hunters to select a taxidermist in the country of final destination before commencing your safari. Your taxidermist, wildlife department, or agricultural agency will be able to advise you on your destinations particular CITES and import regulations.
It is important to notify us in advance of trophy export from Tanzania, of any matters relevant to the importation of your trophies into the country of final destination.
